You
may have heard it in the theme song of the hit TV show, Pretty Little
Liars, “Two can keep a secret if one of them is dead.” While a negative
thought to have, this can be found true in many situations involving girls and
secrets.
Before sharing a secret with someone, ask yourself some simple questions. Is this something I would want on Facebook for everyone to see? Is this something I would want my parents or teachers knowing? If you answered “no” to any of the above then don’t share the secret! Technology is huge these days, so the chances of your secret spreading are even greater. “But I only told one person!” Just like you told only one person, they told only one person, who told only one person, and so on.
If
you decide to share your secret anyways, a safer way to do so is by telling
someone in person. If you send your confession through text, e-mail, or any
other source, it can be passed around and you won’t be able to deny the
evidence if someone does find out.
Keeping
a secret may not always be a good thing, either. If the secret means that
someone is putting themselves or someone else in danger, it’s important that
you tell an adult you trust as soon as possible!
The
best kinds of relationships are ones that don’t involve secrets. These include
parents, friends, and boyfriends. If your relationship is based off of secrets,
you will start to become suspicious of each other, and you will never believe
when someone says, “oh, it was nothing.” Soon you won’t have a relationship at
all, because without trust, there are just bad feelings and no one wants to be
around those.
